Documents

Some documents from Killerton days discovered in attics, garages and long forgotten drawers, cupboards and packing cases and a collection of emails and missives circulated to everone.

Included are such treasures as a St Luke's Prospectus, a Student Union Handbook, Christmas dinner menus, a rugby team sheet, and so on.

Unfortunately, for many of the items I lost details about who contributed them when my computer had to be rebuilt following the fire at my home in 2011. I also lost several emails when the website was trashed in 2013.

Putting those sentences together has made me desperately aware of just how miserably I have failed - bearing in my mind my long term involvement in IT management and my commitment to Disaster Recovery procedures - or Business Continuity as it is referred to now! - ah well....

Life’s like that sometimes

Some stories from our time since leaving Killerton

Killerton Now

Killerton is a very busy place, even busier than when we resided there.

A quick look at their website or their Facebook page will reveal some of the many activities and exhibitions they offer.

The house is suffering a little from its age and the roof is currently under repair. A huge scaffolding tent covers the building while they work. It is anticipated to be completed by October.

Killertonions - Then and Now

40 years on and the Killerton Estate and the House are little older but still in great shape.

The ex-residents are similarly a little older but in most case, a slightly different shape!

Unfortunately, some ex-residents are no longer with us. There are a few tributes to them here.

There's also some "updates" to what people have been doing or are doing, in some cases, a  reflection on life in general.

There's also a list - albeit incomplete - of the students who resided at Killerton in the 13 years it was used as a hall of residence (though that term hardly describes Killerton)

Student Lists - by year

Who were the students at Killerton?

Where are they now?

Would I recognise them if I met them?

We are in regular contact with around 85 ex-Killertonions. Unfortunately some have passed away.

The lists show the names of students who were at Killerton and the year they joined. Some are in the wrong year, many are missing.

The names in black are the people we have an email address for. The ones in green we do not have contact details for. The ones in blue are deceased members and the ones not on the lists are the ones I know nothing about.

Killerton  Times

Killerton was a rather special place as a hostel for St Luke's students.

Around 50 young men living together in a fairly confined space - albeit in the middle of 6400 acres of beautiful gardens and country side.

The environment did create a bond between them. It also led to some quite entertaining events.

Sporting Tales

The nearest village to Killerton was around 3 miles away and College over 6 miles.

We had our own sporting facilities including a rugby pitch, a soccer pitch, a cricket ground, a squash court - albeit we needed to move the cows off the field and clear the worst of the cow pats before we could use the first two!

Occasionally it was even necessary to try to flatten the pitches a little - not the safest of tasks as one group found.

We had a table tennis, snooker, and of course, the babby foot machine!

We were usually able to put out a very useful team for whichever sport we entered.

More recently we have been visiting our old stomping grounds and have found that "our cricket pitch" is the home ground for Broadclyst CC.

Bar Bits and Pieces

The Killerton Bar - gained notoriety throughout Luke's, Role, and even Bicton, Seale Hayne, Weymouth ....

Tales from Teaching Practice

All those who went through training at St Luke's College gained teaching experiences (well, maybe just experiences) at some of the local schools in and around Devon and Cornwall. Most students "survived" these postings. Many have stories of those times. Some have even commited them to emails and they are recorded here:

 40 Years on - Sorry, 50 years on! ...

Where does 50 years go?

A few updates from people let us know that the Killerton spirit is alive and well?

 In Memorium

Student no longer with us:

Killerton Song Book

Just a few of the songs that were common in the bar or on the coach trips.

I should stress, many are not terribly PC so please view at your own risk :(

Trains and boats and planes

Trains and boats and planes ... well, mostly cars and motorbikes and public transport ..

Some memories of transport in college days.
