One of the most rewarding things about working in member services is being encouraged to be friendly and chat to people.
It's its amazing the coincidences that are uncovered.
Just recently a gentleman from Blaengarw, a smal valleys town came to shop at CostCos.
I chatted to him and discovered he was a resident at Killerton in 1966. His name is Dai Michael, a lovely chap who moved into college after the first year it appears he had a problem oversleeping and arriving late or even missing lectures - probably due to the social life of Killerton..
He spoke fondly of Sir Richard and Lady Anne who often attended Sunday lunch.
He mentioned Sir Richard's ability as a squash player!
Dai reeled off quite a few names of his contemporaries. I told him of the website so hopefully he might get in touch with a story or two.
He still teaches physics part-time at Sandfields in Port Talbot.
He is a very active 68 year old.
Another person he mentioned was Newport hooker Dai Ford.
Does anyone else remember either of these 2 Dais ?
Another regular member of CostCo is John Scott - former England and Cardiff rugby player. He did not live in halls of residence whilst at St.Luke's.
He does remember the Pontardulais Choir playing at Killerton and asked to pass on his regards especially to Lukey Lewis who he recalls went to America to play tennis and taught at Reading.
It's a small world isn't it?
