It is 50 years since Killerton was retired as a hall of residence in 1976. It seemed an appropriate time to let the website retire.

www.killerton-memories.co.uk was established in 2009 at the behest of a few ex-killers who, after a pint or two in the Three Tuns, suggested that “it would be a good idea” to share some of our stories and see who else was “out there”.

The word spread, well, the emails spread and over the years we have been in touch with and in many cases, met up, with over 150 ex-Killertonions. Also over that time we have said goodbye to a few.

The website grew to include stories of times at Killerton and at St Luke’s, as well as many experiences from the intervening years. Photos from those times have also appeared to prompt the more memories – and further stories.

I am most grateful for the many contributions that people have sent to me over the years and that they have allowed me to share them.

Various upgrades and updates to the software as well as migrations from server to server have meant that several links have been lost and the prospect of trying to mend it is a little daunting. The ongoing maintenance of the website has become more difficult over recent years. I’m reminded of a comment I saw many years ago in the middle of a program listing: “When I wrote this bit of code, two of us knew how it worked. Now God only knows how it works!” I’m afraid it is like that now with the website. When I did things, at the time they all seemed so obvious and simple. Now, as the software changes beneath your finger and I’m pretty sure someone is moving the files that I once placed in very obvious locations – a bit like my car keys!

I have come to the position where I feel it is time to say goodbye to the website. 

Thank you all again for your help and support over the years. It has been a real labour of love for me that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It has given me great pleasure in being able to assemble so many memories, both mine and others.
